HerStory

I am Denisha and I created Galactic Balm in 2016 in an attempt to find a treatment for my children's eczema. As a stay-at-home mom with a limited budget, I had a drawer full of hydrocortisone cream. I had tried all the major and somewhat expensive over-the-counter creams, soothing and sensitive skin body washes, and baby washes, but my skin and my children's skin continued to become dry, cracked, scaly, and sometimes leathery. After recently becoming a licensed esthetician, and doing some research, I knew I could find something that was more natural, less expensive, and actually worked! By this time, YouTube had become a thing and you could look up anything, so after watching hours of videos over a span of years, in 2018 or 2019, I started making jars for friends and family as gifts.
In February 2021, I took control of my life and left a toxic marriage. I moved my children, dog, and myself to Arkansas, where my sister suggested I sell my shea butter alongside her jewelry and accessories of the earth and African diaspora. In May of 2021, we started selling at the downtown farmers market in Fort Smith. Within a few months, I noticed that customers really enjoyed the balm and returned to purchase it for friends and family. It filled my heart with joy to hear customers rave about how the balm helped them or their elderly parents, or how they were able to use soap after suffering from eczema on their hands!
I am confident that my shea butter is a high-quality product that can benefit many people. I am proud of what I have accomplished and I am excited to see what the future holds for my business.
